With 46 years of existence, Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) at Ranchi enjoys the status of a nation’s reputed management school in the fields of Personnel Management, Rural development, and Information technology. Eligibility
The minimum qualification required for the admission are the following :
a. Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Only candidates who have completed the three-year degree course will be considered for admissions. Candidates appearing for the final part of their degree examination may also apply. Such candidates, if selected, can take provisional admission provided their examinations are completed by 1st July, 2002. In case they are declared failed in their examination, their admission will stand cancelled automatically. No fees are refundable on this ground.
b. Applicants should have an adequate knowledge of English and Hindi. In case a student is not acquainted with Hindi, he or she should be willing to pick up a working knowledge of it during the first few months for effective participation in field work.
c. Candidates sponsored by organisation, Industries or State Governments, are welcome to apply, but they have to pass through the same procedures as other candidates and pay the same fees.
Seats Available : 60 percent of the total seats will be reserved for the State of Jharkhand including 33% for SC/ST and 7% for Christians.

Campus and Academic Facilities
Accommodation/Hostel Facilities : A limited number of hostel seats are available at Loyola Hostel (for R.C. Students) and at YMCA Hostel. Other students have to make their own arrangements in lodges and hostels in town. 100 bed Hostel by Ministry of Welfare, Govt. of Jharkhand for tribal girls will be ready by August, 2002.

Computing : The Institute has a state of the art computer lab and resource centre. Recognising the challenges that the industry has put forth in terms of information technology, the institution’s computer lab hosts a range of latest softwares, LAN facility with over 40 terminals and then necessary hardware support in synchronization with the needs.
Library : The Institute has a well stocked library containing over 32,000 volumes of books, journals, encyclopedias, almanacs and magazines. It subscribes to more than 100 periodicals and journals.
