Application from Unmarried Male & Female Graduate in Mechanical Engineering/Naval architecture
for the post of Trainee Marine Enginer

Qualification
Graduate in Mechanical Engineering / Naval architecture from any Engineering college recognized by AICTE ( Ministry of human Resource and development. Candidate must be in possession of valid Engineering Degree / Provisional Certificate. Must have secured minimum 50% marks in Final year Engineering and at least 50% marks in English Language at 10th standard or 10+2 level.
Age
Age not exceeding 24 ( twenty four ) years as on 01.01.2009 (candidate must be born on or after 01.01.1985 only ). Age relaxation of five years for SC /ST candidates will be given as per Govt. Rules. Two years age relaxation will be given to women candidates.
Training programme
Training Program will be one- year duration compromising of residential pre-sea training Selected candidates will be undergo residential pre-sea training at Training institute approved by the Directorate General of Shipping .pre-sea Training courses are expected to commence from first week of January 2008.
Course fee
The cost of pre-sea training will be include tuition fees, books, lodging, boarding, uniform etc. and will be borne by the candidates. The training fees will be approximately Rs.1,85,000/- (Rupees one lakh Eighty five thousands only) and payable directly to the Training Institutes. These fees are not refundable. In addition, the candidates are required to pay Rs. 50,000 (Rupees Fifty thousands only) towards STCW Modular courses and other expenses. Before joining the ship candidates should obtained passport with ECNR and CDC ,which will take about 45 days time .
Full amount is to be paid prior to commencement of shore based training. fees once paid are not refundable under any circumstances, either in full or part.
From January 2005 onwards the Central Government, vide their Notification published in Gazette S.O.1436 (E) dated 30.12.2004 has notified guidelines for providing training by Shipping Companies opting for Tonnage Tax under CHAPTER XII-G of the Income Tax ACT 1961. As per these guidelines, each trainee officer has to pay Rs. 10,500 /- (Rupees Ten Thousands Five Hundred only) per month to Maritime Training Trust in Directorate General of shipping, towards his training onboard a ship prior joining the ship. This means, for total 6 (six) months shipboard training , each candidates has to pay a total sum of Rs. 63,000/- (rupees Sixty Three Thousands only).
Considering the financial burden on the candidates, The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd will initially pay the above amounts of Rs, 63,000 /- upfront to the Maritime Training Trust Prior commencement of shipboard training. However this amount will be recovered from the candidates every month from the wages they earn on board during their shipboard training as Fifth Engineer Officer.
Career Prospect
On successful completion of one year training and after obtaining Ministry of Transport (MOT) Class IV Part ‘A’ Certificates of competency from the Directorate General of Shipping, Candidates will be posted as Fifth Engineer Officers on any of the vessel owned / managed by SCI.
Gross salary payable to Fifth Engineer Officer would be as per INSA / MUI Agreement and at present is approximately Rs. 45,000/- per month.
With further experience at sea and obtaining higher Certificates of Competency, the incumbent will have the opportunity to rise to the rank of Chief Engineer Officer.
Entrance Test/Interview
Eligible candidates will be required to appear for written test in Technical Knowledge, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude test and Reasoning Ability. Question paper will be bilingual i.e. in English and Hindi.
Medical Standards
Candidates being posted on SCI ships should be healthy and physically fit for sea service as per STCW 95/MS Medical rules2000 as determined by SCI’s Chief Medical Officer and applicable to seafarers.
Service agreement
Selected Candidates will have to serve SCI for a minimum periods of four years after they obtained MOT Class IV Part ‘A’ Certificates of Competency. SCI may reimburse Rs. 25,000/- as Service Bonus to candidate after serving SCI for the minimum period.
