The government has appointed D Subbarao, Finance Secretary, as the new governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Subbarao will take charge from YV Reddy, who relinquishes office on completion of his eventful five years at the helm of the central bank on September 5.
He is an Alumnus of IIT-Kanpur.
Subbarao topped the Civil Services Exam in 1972. He was allotted to the Andhra Pradesh Cadre. he did his MS in Economics from Ohio State University (1978) and was a Humphrey Fellow at MIT during 1982-83. He has a Ph. D in Economics.
He rose to the rank of Finance Secretary in May 2007.
