1 Research Associate Position

Research Associate: Salary in the range of £ 30,520 – £31,340 per annum

All appointments will normally be made at the bottom of the salary range

Fixed term appointments for 1 year in the first instance; renewable for up to five years (depending on skills)

The Circuits and Systems group within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at Imperial College London wishes to appoint a Research Associate to conduct research into signal processing algorithms for real-time implementation on dedicated low power hardware within the context of neuroscience.

The position will be supervised by Dr Esther Rodriguez-Villegas, within the framework of a €1.8 million 5 year project funded by the European Research Council.

The Research Associate will be expected to participate in advanced research on processing of electroencephalography (EEG) signals with an aim of identifying application specific features via algorithms that can be translated into power efficient hardware implementations. The post holder will also contribute to general support associated to the PI’s team and the project.

Applicants should have experience of working in a multidisciplinary team; posses excellent Matlab and C (or equivalent) programming skills with experience of application specific algorithm design, verification and performance testing. Further experience on microcontroller implementation would be highly beneficial.

Awareness of statistical performance measures is essential, along with the ability to manage large data sets operating under an encryption platform. Additionally, applicants must have a basic understanding of physiological monitoring and instrumentation.

You must have excellent spoken and written English together with a strong publication track record or equivalent (i.e. patents, technology awards, etc..). You must the ability to perform effectively under pressure and time constraints, with excellent personal organization. This includes the ability to pay close attention to detail, deal successfully with a wide variety of people and a willingness to learn. Previous experience with the EEG is desirable but not essential.

If appointed at Research Associate level, you must possess a PhD (or equivalent), or be close to achieving the degree, in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Computing or closely related field.
